This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected and how it is processed when you use EarthCast (package name: com.earthcast.app, the "App"). The App requires no account, and the developer does not collect or store personally identifiable information such as your name or email address.
1. Location Data
- When — Your location is accessed only when you tap the "My location" button. There is no background location tracking.
- Purpose — Showing your position on the map and fetching the weather for that spot. Coordinates (rounded to 4 decimal places) are sent to the weather data provider (MET Norway) and are never combined with personally identifiable information.
- Storage — Location data is never stored on any server.
- If denied — All core features (globe, forecasts, typhoon tracking) remain fully available without location permission.
2. Advertising and Third-Party Services
The App shows ads via Google AdMob. The following may be collected automatically by the advertising provider:
- Advertising ID
- Device information (model, OS version, screen size, etc.)
- Approximate location (IP-based)
- App usage and ad interaction data
See the Google Privacy Policy and AdMob data protection information. You can reset your advertising ID or limit ad personalization in your device settings. In regions requiring consent (e.g., the EEA), the App asks for ad personalization consent via Google UMP on first launch.
3. External Content Providers
The App displays content from the services below. When you view such content, ordinary connection data (such as your IP address) may be transmitted to the provider, whose own privacy policy applies.
- Weather data — NOAA GFS, NASA GIBS, Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), MET Norway, Korea Meteorological Administration
- Maps — OpenFreeMap, OpenStreetMap contributors
- Live webcams/CCTV — YouTube embeds, Windy Webcams, and others
- Street-level imagery — Mapillary
- Travel guide content — Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata
4. Data Retention
The developer stores no personal data on any server. In-app settings are stored only on your device and are deleted when you uninstall the App.
5. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
